AP Comparative Government (COGO) Iran Practice Test

The main thing this question tests is which states are considered Iran’s direct adversaries in today’s international politics. The United States and Israel are widely viewed as Iran’s principal adversaries due to decades of conflict over Iran’s nuclear activities, regional influence, sanctions, and security tensions. The United States broke diplomatic ties with Iran after the 1979 revolution and has maintained extensive sanctions and pressure campaigns, while Israel perceives Iran as an existential threat and has repeatedly taken action to limit Iran’s nuclear program and military reach in the region.

Russia and China are not seen as adversaries of Iran; they are more like strategic partners or at least influential allies in certain contexts, cooperating with Iran on various regional and economic fronts. The United Nations is an international organization, not a state adversary, though Iran may clash with UNSC actions at times. Saudi Arabia is a regional rival, but the pair that best captures the two states most consistently described as Iran’s adversaries is the United States and Israel.
